Investing in our Parks: Synthetic Turf Replacement

Published Tuesday, April 30, 2024

The City of Santee is happy to announce the installation of new synthetic turf at Town Center Community Park East. These turf fields have been used by youth and adult sports groups 84% of the days since opening in 2010. Many organizations host tournaments, games and practices on the turf, and when not reserved, the fields are open for public use. The well-loved turf fields were originally installed in 2010 and, after 14 years of heavy use, are due for replacement.

The City of Santee has also allocated $872,230 to fully fund the replacement of two synthetic turf fields at Town Center Community Park East. Thanks to the generous Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant from San Diego County Supervisor Joel Anderson’s office, the City has received $100,000 to go towards this project. Various sports user groups, such as AYSO 341, My NFL Youth Flag Football, Santee Ravens football and cheer, and Santee Aviators Youth Lacrosse, have kindly donated a total of $31,000 to support this project. The grant, community groups, and City of Santee funded a total of $1,003,230 to go toward the turf installation project.

City staff strive to provide the Santee Community with quality parks and recreation facilities. The synthetic turf replacement is an investment in ensuring quality play for all and fostering community engagement. The new turf will allow for more sports activities, event space, and recreation for years to come.

The replacement project will consist of removing old synthetic turf and padding and installing new synthetic turf and padding with new improved cool play infill that will help with temperature control on the field. The new fields will have permanent lines for soccer, football, mini soccer and lacrosse. Work will take place starting April 22 at Town Center Community Park East. Construction will require all of Town Center Community Park East to close through the completion of the project. It’s expected that the park will re-open early summer.
