NOTE - City Hall is open to the public, with restrictions. However, we still strongly encourage making an appointment so we can guarantee the best customer service possible. Drop in customers will be subject to wait times as we have limited capacity in the lobby. A face covering is required and you must maintain 6-foot social distance while conducting business at City Hall.
What We Do
The Finance Department manages financial matters affecting all city departments, including revenues, expenditures, investments, accounting and bond debt. That includes overseeing the city's payroll and purchasing. It's also responsible for long-range financial planning and debt administration.
The department also processes parking citations, business licenses and security alarm permits.
In addition to monitoring the city's fiscal health, the department prepares a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. It also oversees the drafting of a city budget that is adopted after review by the public and City Council. Special assessment districts, such as landscape maintenance districts, are also under the department's purview.
Santee's finance director, who also serves as the city treasurer, reviews staff reports and assesses the fiscal impact of agenda items brought before the City Council.
